#1532 closed defect (wontfix)

loomcd: speech is played too slow

Reported by: (none) Owned by: fingolfin
Priority: normal Component: Engine: SCUMM
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Loom

Description

I upgraded an old Loom EGA version to the VGA version using an update utility I found on the net. There was also an audio pack available, which consisted of an mp3 file. I copied it into the same directory as the rest of the VGA version, so I suppose I now have the VGA+speech CD version, right?

Everything seems to work okay in ScummVM (version "0.5.1 (Feb 1 2004 01:51:27)" from Debian unstable BTW), but the speech is very slow. The correct parts are played, but the pitch is very low and some parts are cut off (I guess because they take too long to play at the lower speed). I checked the mp3 file with mpg123 and it sounds just fine there (i.e. normal pitch).

So, is there something worng with what ScummVM does with the mp3 file, or did I get a damaged version?

Kimiko

These so called "upgrade packs" are illegal, and we do not give any support for them or to their users. It's very easy to legally acquire LoomCD, e.g. from eBay.

Ah. Okay, sorry to have bothered you then. Thanks for the info.

FYI, a little update on that. It seems ScummVM had a problem with the sampling rate (44.1 kHz) of the mp3 file. After resampling it to a 22.05 kHz Ogg file it works like a charm. Just thought you might like to know that.
