ScummVM version : 1.8.0git6200-g5afdf32 (Jan 18 2016 04:08:31)
Problem : In Chapter 8 when Jason has to move across the cabin to rescue Maya (using the knife), I cannot get him even to move as far as the cabinet. Regardless of whether I have barred the door or not. Savegame provided in the cabin but before the door is barred.
Language : English (CD version)
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

The original is a bit brutal in regards to these timed sequences. I'll see if I can't increase the time allowed to do it. It would be useful if you could attach a game from the previous game scene as well if you have one, so I can test the scene setup.

This save has Jason outside the cabin. You need to unlock the door using the keys (in the inventory) and then you can get into the cabin.

Also, this particular scene is included in the demo for the game. I did try this for practice and could move Jason at least some way but only halfway across the room.

Thanks. I do know that there's logic in the room to quickly kill you if you don't bar the door, or you're in motion when the guy outside the door fires his gun at regular intervals. However, I seem to have stumbled upon a separate problem where the game isn't letting walk to the right properly after barring the door.. it keeps thinking it's hit a wall. I'll likely have to do some tedious debugging of the original in DosBox to see if I can figure out what's going on :P

Actually it seems all my initial concern that you couldn't move at all were incorrect.. after barring the door, I found that if moved down a bit, I was able to move all the way to the other side of the room. It's like that even in the original.. if you click too high up on the screen, such as right on Maya, you won't walk. The other points still remain in force, though.. you need to bar the door, and you will be killed if a bullet is fired whilst you're walking. This is actually a case where sound cues are really imporant. Could you confirm?

I must have found every place in that cabin you could be shot but after many, many attempts I have finally made it past the cabin and onto the next village. How I hate timed sequences - and I believe a few more lie ahead! Anyway, thanks for all your help. It is obviously very off-putting that in the original game one's movement in the cabin has to be so very contrived. Please consider it fixed - but I will be amazed if no-one else has difficulties here.

I too dispise timed sequences like this. It's good to know you were able to make it through.
