WINCE: GOB3: Unable to progress through queen's throne room

Reported by: SF/noelemahc Owned by: DrMcCoy
Priority: normal Component: Engine: Gob
Version: Keywords: original
Cc: Game: Goblins 3

Description

Encountered with the euro floppy version of Goblins 3 (game is in English, splash screen isn't Sierra's), using ScummVM 0.11.1 for WinCE. This is because I cannot get 0.12.0 to work on my device at all - it simply CTDs when trying to launch any game, I will post a separate bug report on that.

The device is an ASUS P750 running Windows Mobile 6.1.

The problem: on my second visit to Queen Xina's throne room, after having done all there is to do in Bodd's throne room on the first visit (seeing Wynnonna, talking to Bodd about getting his ancestor's skull back, getting the slipper and the axe), I am locked out of progressing further because Fulbert refuses to go up the candleholder to tip the cup-and-ball that was made of Bodd's ancestor's skull and that means Were-Blount cannot cut it down with the axe, and that means no getting further in the game. Can provide save if necessary, both immediately of the problem and one screen earlier, to ascertain that it doesn't have anything to do with the progress in Bodd's screen.

Resolved the running games issue I had with the stable 0.12.0 build, but the bug persists in that build as well.

Is this happening on the original too DrMcCoy? Is it also happening on the desktop backends?

Please reassign to me if not.

This bug occurred to me during Gob3 playtesting for 1.2.0. However, it is not fatal to game completion.

Were-Blount doesn't wield the axe to cut the skull down. You need to use Fulbert on the Plate, then Were-Blount on the vegetables/table to set the rightmost chandelier swinging. Then use Were-Blount on the left chandelier. He will swing to the Mantelpiece. Use the Pot to talk to the Cook (who hates the Queen's cat). Use the Axe on the Pot to give this to the Cook. Then move Were-Blount back to the floor. Use Were-Blount on the fireplace to hide him. The Queen's cat now emerges to eat (because Cats don't like dogs or Werewolves :-) Now use Fulbert on the Candle Holder, and he should climb it and set the Skull bouncing. The Cook will throw the Axe at the Cat and if the timing is correct, the Skull will be cut down in the process.

If the timing was not good or if Fulbert still won't climb, then pick up the fallen Axe and repeat.

I think somewhere in this sequence, probably giving Axe to Cook or him throwing it, the disabled Fulbert-Candle Holder hotspot is re-enabled allowing completion. This looks to be a minor script bug from the original, but not fatal due to the re-enabling.

A-ha, so I had the sequence of events down incorrectly. However, since this stumped me, someone who has completed the game numerous times, won't it complicate someone's first ever playthrough? Although I admit that this person probably won't be doing it on a WinCE build of ScummVM, that is not unlikely =) Guess I really need to update my mobile version of ScummVM now.
