SIMON: Game version unknown

|Game:||Simon the Sorcerer 1|
I get this message in CMD when I try to play Simon the Sorceror 1. Nothing else happens:

WARNING: AGOS failed to instantiate engine: Unable to locate game data (target 'simon1', path 'D:\SimonI\)!
ScummVM version: 0.11.1
Version: CD with Simon 1 & 2. However, I think this can't be the same version as mentioned in the documentation, because there's only one set of game data, and that's in \SimonI\
Trying to run in Windows XP
For what it's worth, I have been able, on different attempts, to get the initial cutscenes to play out, but then it crashes when it gets to the actual game; something about "video_putchar_drawchar - unknown language", but at the moment I can't get it to do even that.
