PS2: Game crashes sporadically

Reported by: SF/pioneerman2k1 Owned by: lavosspawn
Priority: normal Component: Engine: SCUMM
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Monkey Island 3

Description

First of all: I use the PS2 Port of ScummVM (Ver. 0.8.2). I Copied the game to my USB HDD and run it with ScummVM. Even when i play some minutes the game crashes sporadically. I dont know why, because all the other games like DOTT, Indy3, Maniac Manison and COMI2 work fine! Hope this Bug is fixed in ver. 0.9.0?! Thanks in advance!

So why don't you try 0.9.0 then?

I'm not sure why this bug was assigned to me - probably a mistake, as the report clearly is for "PS2" and not "PSP" - reassigning to LavosSpawn, who is responsible for the PlayStation 2 port.

Yes, well... The PS2's readme says: The Curse of Monkey Island only works correctly from HDD. Playing it from CD/DVD will initially seem to work, but you will experience random crashes.

I'm just realizing that this is a little misleading, what I meant here is the PS2's INTERNAL hdd (using the original, big PS2 and the network adaptor). Using any other device will result in those crashes.

There still is no 0.9.0 release of the PS2 port and I'm afraid it'll still take some time, too. And I can't even say if this problem is going to be fixed, either. Sorry. In any case, I would *assume* that it'll never work perfectly from cd/dvd/usb, simply because ComI requires quite a lot of file i/o.

joostp: Sorry, that was my fault... Somehow (and I really am not sure *how* exactly that was possible :-) I misread the report as being for PSP, changed the subject and assigned it to you, based on the fact that the report was, erm, "obviously", for the PSP... *g*
