PSP FT: Can't open SFX file, stops play-through

PSP Scumm Beta 5 (ScummVM 0.8.0CVS)
Using the PC CD version of FT
English
Talkie version
100%

At the beginning of Full Throttle, if you skip through the
cutscenes (by pressing L) and get to the opening screen
where you have to punch out of the garbage skip, do this
and then walk off to the right and try and get onto the
bike (by selecting the fist action) after the short
cutscene, the player character gets off the bike and the
game stops and opens the console with this line of text:

ERROR: startTalkSound: SFX file is not open

You cannot re enter the game after this point, although
you can exit to the PSP Home menu without any
problems.(ie it doesn't crash)

It sounds like you forgot to copy the MONSTER.SOU file to
your memory stick.
Can you check if it's there?

You are absolutely right- I have not copied a Monster.sou file.
I didn't notice as the dialogue in the cutscene still plays. I
don't suppose the .sou file is related to or the same as the
152 Meg FT.LA1 file which is in there? This is all that's on my
Full Throttle CD I believe. Is there anyway of running it without
the dialogue/monster.sou file?

Closing this as invalid as it's not really a bug, but
standard ScummVM behaviour.

To answer your questions:

The MONSTER.SOU file contains all the speech and
sound-effects used in the game, it's different from FT.LA1,
which contains most other data (sprites, backgrounds,
scripts, etc.).
The MONSTER.SOU file should be present on your Full Throttle
CD, else you have a bootleg/illegal copy, which we don't
support.

The audio of cutscenes is stored seperately (along with the
animation data for that specific cutscene), so that's why
those had sound.

ScummVM used to allow you to play games without a
MONSTER.SOU file being present, but apparently this
behaviour was changed a while ago.
There currently is no way to play the game without the
MONSTER.SOU file with the latest PSP release (unless,
ofcourse, you created a MONSTER.SOG or MONSTER.SO3 file from
your original MONSTER.SOU).

Apologies for time wasting - I do have the Lucas Arts compilation box
set, so I will dig out the cds again and check.

Thanks also for the explanations - I really appreciate that given the
outcome of the post, and I'll be more careful with the database in the
future.
