V2: Prepositions in Spanish

Reported by: SF/jellby Owned by: fingolfin
Priority: low Component: Engine: SCUMM
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Maniac Mansion

Description

In scumm/script_v2.cpp, around line 965, the Spanish prepositions are defined as: " an", " con", " on", " a". The first and the third have no meaning, I'd write: " en", " con", " en" (or "sobre"), " a". I don't know how the original interpreter behaved, though.

Well those prepositions are based on the .exe file for a spanish maniac mansion somebody sent me. However, I just re-analyzed it, and it turns out that it's simply the english version hacked up to have some "spanish" texts in it (onle 3 or 4 places in the whole file were changed).

If somebody has a real spanish maniac/zak executable. send it to me and I can see what are the original prepositions (only the .exe! not the datafiles).

Actually the MANIAC.EXE included with DOTT looks equally hacked, but the prepositions there are: "en", "con", "su", "a".

However, "su" is not a Spanish preposition, and it doesn't mean "on" (it does in Italian), so I suggest to fix it in ScummVM and translate it as "en" or "sobre" (when it is used, anyway?)

Do you wan't that MANIAC.EXE? Should I send it by e-mail or attach it here?

I meant: "when is it used, anyway?"

I don't know ATM when that preposition is used. I realize that knowing this would be helpful in determining which to use.

Anyway, I changed script_v2.cpp to use 'en' and 'en' for now.

Closing this. If somebody actually encounters those prepositions during play, and they are wrong, they can open a new bug report.
