CINE: FW Amiga - Wolf Audio Glitch

Reported by: SF/crowley9 Owned by: lordhoto
Priority: normal Component: Engine: Cine
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Future Wars

Description

While approaching the wolf in front of the monastery, it is supposed to lower its head and growl. However, in ScummVM the sound played is either the wrong one or is very distorted, as it sounds much more electronic. I am playing this with ScummVM version 1.5.0 under Windows XP.

crowley9: Thank you for the bug report. However, in order to progress this, can you provide the following: 1. Please attach a savegame at the relevant point to this bug, to aid replication. 2. Please attach a text file to this bug with a listing of your Future Wars Amiga datafiles along with file MD5sums. The output of a tool such as http://md5summer.org/ would be optimal. This will allow us to identify your exact version and eliminate the possibility of corrupted datafiles causing this.

For developers investigating this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETHGr3Gv_nk at around 21m00 in gives a reference of the expected output. This may be due to the audio driver selection issue?

I added the requested files. I am using the WHDload files to play the game under ScummVM, and .adf files while under the Amiga emulator. I also took a look at the longplay video, and oddly, the sound which plays with the wolf is different from what I get both on the emulator and ScummVM. The video's sound has a lower pitch than on ScummVM, but on the emulator it's lower still. Playing on the emulator, it sort of sounds like there are two sounds played at the same time on different sound channels, and the video sounds like it only plays the higher-pitch one. I can provide a recording from the emulator myself, if that would be helpful.

I committed a change which should take care of the pitch issue: 0fe5e0e6bde4921a018b3fdc597adbb7d3745ed5. It will be included in the next daily build. It would be nice if you could check whether this fixes the general strangeness of this sound for you too.

It does sound much better now. Not exactly the same as I get on the Amiga emulator, but some of that is probably due to the specific audio settings in that end. I am content to consider this glitch fixed now.
