5 | Game Freezes
---|
6 |
---|
7 | In DOS, if the introduction to the game freezes on the lizard this is
---|
8 | most likely due to the sound card selector not choosing the right sound card.
---|
9 | This may happen if, for example, you have a Creative Labs SoundBlaster 16 but
---|
10 | the SETSOUND program selects a standard SoundBlaster or 100% compatible
---|
11 | card.
---|
12 |
---|
13 | To solve this problem simply re-run SETSOUND in the 3 Skulls directory on
---|
14 | your hard drive and make sure that you highlight the correct sound card type.
---|
15 |
---|
16 | Please note that you need to have a sound card that supports both digital
---|
17 | SFX and either FM or General MIDI music to play the game.
---|
18 |
---|
19 | Usage of Smartdrive
---|
20 |
---|
21 | In some circumstances it may only be possible to have a small Smartdrive
---|
22 | cache, maybe as small as 512k on 8MB machines. This is due to the program
---|
23 | requiring as much total memory as possible to run.
---|
24 |
---|
25 | Smartdrive will greatly improve the frame rate and therefore the smoothness
---|
26 | of the in-game animations (especially the intro) - smartdrive is only really
---|
27 | needed if your PC system is close to the minimum specifications as detailed
---|
28 | on the requirements sticker on the box.
---|
29 |
---|
30 | Due to the PC architecture the overall speed of the PC is not necessarily
---|
31 | dependent on pure processor speed alone (although this obviously helps!). If
---|
32 | you have a 486 DX2 with 8MB RAM and x2 CD ROM drive you should notice a great
---|
33 | improvement in frame rate if you were to increase the amount of memory (and
---|
34 | therefore the smartdrive cache) and/or upgrade to a x4 CD ROM drive.
---|
35 |
---|
36 | Windows 95
---|
37 |
---|
38 | We have had no problems with the game running under Windows 95 as long as the
---|
39 | machine has around 12MB RAM, running with 8MB RAM leads to similar memory
---|
40 | constraints as in the DOS version. Windows 95 takes about 2MB of RAM from
---|
41 | the system which unfortunately leads to temperamental running with only
---|
42 | 8MB RAM.
---|
43 |
---|
44 |
---|
45 | Should you have any problems running this game please do not hesitate to
---|
46 | contact the Customer Services department detailed in the game manual.
