Can you please clarify what was patched in this version? Is this an official release?

Yes this is an official release in english with a french patch apply on it (it was working before and after a few update of scummvm, the game is not working anymore.)
The game keep the language in english for the voices but have the french subtitles also.

Hello, can you please validate this version? Thank you!
I've never had a problem getting it to work before, and I really enjoy playing this game in English with French subtitles.

Hi! In order to validate this version I would need the patch by its own, so I can replicate the situation myself.

Hey, just to double check: is it possible that you have to move scripts.clu, swordres.rif and text.clu from the patch to the CLUSTERS directory? Please try that and let me know if it works.

Because these md5 hashes are already in the detection table, but they show up as being in the CLUSTERS folder...

Please report the following data to the ScummVM team at https://bugs.scummvm.org/ along with the name of the game you tried to add and its version, language, etc.:

Okay, I might have a solution for you. Since keeping the original english dub and having a different language in the subtitles is something that we had in the past but we lost some time ago, I started reimplementing it.

If I start adding subtitles language conversions left and right, the detection system will become messy real quick. But there's a better solution and it requires you to only put the *.txt files in the main game folder (which will translate the text of the cutscenes).

In tomorrows' daily build do this:

  • Add the original ENGLISH UNPATCHED version of the game to ScummVM
  • Close ScummVM
  • Put the *.txt files I provided in the zip (that's all you need!) in the game main folder
  • Find your scummvm.ini configuration file (if you are on Windows it's in %appdata%/ScummVM)
  • Open it and find the configuration entry for Broken Sword 1 (it should be named something like [sword1-win-gb] or similar)
  • Insert, below, the following string: subtitles_language_override=fr
  • Save it
  • Open ScummVM, and play the game: it should now be in french.

I just implemented this feature so I haven't got a GUI option for it yet, but I'm working on it, I just wanted to give you this solution asap.

Let me know how it goes.
