#930 closed defect (wontfix)

Loom-CD crashes

Reported by: SF/villanus Owned by: SF/ender
Priority: low Component: Engine: SCUMM
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Loom

Description

I see all of you are very experienced in all about source codes and such things.I only play games :) and as I tried to play with my new Loom-CD Talkie Version with the last ScummVM version it simply crashes (or something like it) in the very beginning, after the swan breaks the window while the Sages are speaking with Dme Hetchel. Therem the game graphics vanish and appears a green window informing about an error. However it says that writing 'exit' you'll be returned to the game, but where I'm returned to is to windows! I've tried million times and every time and in the same place and moment, takes place this bug (I think). I hope it can be solved, cause all other things like sound and voices work great!

To process your bug report appropriately, we need you to provide the following additional information:

* ScummVM version (scummvm -v) * Bug details, including instructions on reproducing it * Language of game (English, German, etc) * Version of game (Talkie, Floppy...) * Platform and Compiler (Win32, Linux, MacOS, etc) * Attach a save game if possible * If this bug only occurred recently, please note the last version without the bug, and the first version including the bug. That way we can fix it quicker by looking at the changes made.

This should only take you a little time but will make it much easier for us to process your bug report in a way that satisfies both you and us.

Thank you for your support!

Also if you are Windows user, consider this excerpt from the README/FAQ:

"If you are experiencing random crashes, and your game plays music from CD, you have encountered a Windows bug. Try copying the data files from CD to your hard disk, and running them from there."

Also, information on exactly WHAT the error that appears in the debugger window said, would be helpful...

Sorry for not answering you as soon as you did with me.I didn't expect you would be so hurry! Well, the game verson I own is the original Loom CD Talkie Version, and the version of ScummVM I downloaded was the last one (I don't have used any more).

The error message after the swan enters the Great Loom says:

ScummVM 0.4.1 (2003-05-25) Console is ready Debugger started, type 'exit' to return to the game ERROR:(9:203:0x721E):Out of memory while allocating 1768515945

I've tried another original LucasArts game, DOTT,as well on its CD version, and still works well, yet.

I hope all this doesn't cause you much more problems.

Thanks!

Please do not modify the priority value. Thanks.

Also, please try if you can also reproduce the problem with latest CVS (you can download daily builds for windows from our webpage). Note also that apparently nobody else (at least on the team) has similar problems, at least not with latest CVS.

That error is the exact error that is usually produced by running a CD Audio game from CD under WinNT based operating systems.

As Fingolfin mentioned in this very bug report, the readme -clearly- states that this is a Windows bug and you must copy the data off the CD.

I am closing this bug as it appears to me that you have not read the documentation. If after doing so you still have problems, please reopen it and follow our bug reporting guidelines including your exact platform and all other required information.
