#7731 closed feature request (wontfix)

Wii : SDL Wii and DVDX

Reported by: SF/msoles7 Owned by: dhewg
Priority: normal Component: Port: Wii

Description

I found both libraries that should give the Wii version it's full potential.

http://www.wiibrew.org/wiki/DVDX

The SDL Wii is a must have for the Wii development, since the original ScummVM is written on SDL libraries. And DVDX is an interesting concept, allowing files to be read on burnt DVD-R's via the Wii's disk drive.

I'll assign this one to our Wii porter so he might spend this one some attention.

Hm, this request seems a bit vague to me... How about explaining a bit *why* those libs are a "must have", i.e., why dhweg should invest time looking into them? :-). In particular, how does "SDL Wii" differ from SDL -- does it differ at all? (Side note: If it differs, then I wonder, why they didn't get those changes merged into SDL ? :).

"must have" is indeed a bit vague ;)

SDL for Wii came a long way, and seems to work for some coders, it just wasn't around when I started this port. In the end it's just converting pixel data to GX textures, just like my ScummVM Wii backend does now. I don't see any gain, in fact we have one layer less atm. Or am I missing something?

ISO9660 support via DVDX is supported by ScummVM for ~7 months now: https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/scummvm/changeset/35930
