#7713 closed feature request (invalid)

DW2: Please insert CD 2

Reported by: SF/meddlingmonk Owned by: dreammaster
Priority: normal Component: Engine: Tinsel
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Discworld II

Description

This is really just a graphical irritant than an actual problem. It occurs on any/every platform and every svn build since Tinsel was added. I'm only now bothering to report as I can no longer find any serious problems. I have the needed data files copied to the hard drive, and naturally am not at all trying to run the game from the CDs. What happens is that when loading a saved game after DW2 has reached the second half--that is, when it's reading files that came from the 2nd CD--the image of a spinning disk and the caption 'Please insert CD 2' appears for a second or two before vanishing. It's really just a normal part of way the game was meant to work, but since the files are on the hard drive it would be nice if it were suppressed if possible.

On MacOSX/PPC I get the spinning CD just after the stunt sheep scene and it does not go away. I can't therefore complete the game.

That's the point at which the game needs the second CD when you're actually running off of the CDs. So if it never goes away, I wonder if you've actually copied all the required data files to your hard drive.

As meddlingmonk indicated, whilst the game expects files copied to the hard disk to have been properly renamed (in particular the ENGLISH*.*, or US*.*, etc.). The game was also desgined to run directly from CD, but only as far as the CD swap (since CD swapping isn't supported).

As such, it may be indicative that you didn't rename any of the files, so the game thinks it's running off of a CD.

Thank you. I have to admit not to RTFM. I looked for hints under http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Discworld_II:_Missing_Presumed...!%3F but they are here: http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Datafiles
