Smoothing for 3x mode

Description
I think it would be great if there were smoothing modes for non-scaled (1x) and 3x scaled images.
At the moment there are
"1x": normal "2x": 2x, 2xsai, super2xsai, supereagle, advmame2x "3x": 3x
Smoothing looks better than the original "pixeled" graphics, so it would be nice if there was (at least one for each) smoothing modes for the other scalings.

Smoothing in the 1x mode makes no sense. What do you want to smooth? You could only loose in picture quality, I'd think...
For 3x, yes, one could add smoothing there, somehow... one could try to adapt the techniques used by advmame2x etc. to work there, too.
