#7256 closed feature request

cd audio in mac os x

Description

Dug through the fora to find that the reason loom's cd audio track didn't play was that cd audio support ommitted from os x port. Adding this would be great! I'm sure whoever else is missing this support would like it, too...

I think this might be due to the SDL port for osx not supporting cd audio not sure. You can always encode the loom track to an ogg or mp3 as listed in the readme as a workaround for now though.

So this might be more of a SDL feature request than a scummvm one. Assigning to fingolfin as he probably knows with which the problem is.

Indeed, this is not implemented in SDL.

How hard would it be to put in some native #ifdef'ed code for this? Granted, it's ugly - but I do hear several people moan each week about the lack of CD Audio support... it'd be nice :P

Having to get people to mp3 stuff is asking a bit much.

if you're going to go to the trouble of adding cdda support for osx why not fix the problem the right way and add the support to SDL? then the next project/person with this problem can benefit

Because it's easier to put some slightly hacky code in ScummVM than to write proper support for SDL :)

And I believe Fingolfin is going to be busy again now, you just moved back didn't you?

Considering that I am one of the OS X maintainers of SDL, if it was trivial I'd have added CD playback support a long time ago. Of course, it is possible. Almost everything is "possible". But I don't even have a single game with a CD audio track, so I have 0% personal compulsion to work on it. Err, OK well there is Sam&Max, but I did not so far notice the CD audio being played anywhere. Not that I am usually playing these games from CD anyway, I have copied them all to my HD.

You won't see CD support coming from me, not in the near future at least.
