#7197 closed feature request

MIDI hardware support

Reported by: (none) Owned by: SF/ender

Description

What about adding support for MIDI hardware (e.g. MPU-401 interfaces, AWE/SBLive wavetable, ...) via OSS and ALSA?

This would have three advantages: - easier to set up than timidity (e.g. SuSE Linux 7.3 does not come with a suitable timidity version, since the server interface is not compiled in, and it lacks a complete GM patch set that works with timidity, since the supplied version does not accept configurations generated with sf2cfg)

- less CPU overhead (hardware mixing vs. software mixing)

- potentially higher quality, depending on the synthesizer used

I second this. Sam and Max is not the same without the wonderfully composed midi music

Using MIDI is now in CVS. Please read the latest readme.txt on how to use it.

Closing. If the midi support in CVS isn't adequate, please feel free to submit a patch :)
