It was a dirty rect issue. Adding an explicit full screen refresh area and update fixed it.

It must be a result of the more recent dirty rect changes. I'll definitely have to fix it.. the breakout game is one of my most favourite parts of the game. They even went to the trouble of creating different level layouts. :)
