SCUMM/HE: SockWorks multi-color painting

Reported by: SF/legoking831 Owned by:
Priority: normal Component: Engine: SCUMM

Cc: Game: Pajama Sam's Sock Works

Description

From what I can tell, this isn't supposed to be a feature of the game, which is jarring considering the obviousness of the bug. Basically, one of the components of some of the levels is a paint bucket. There are single-color ones that turn the sock into one color and nothing else. There are also multi-color paint buckets, which rotate the color of a sock. Or should I say, EVERY sock on the board. It should only change the color of the sock that passes through it, but instead it changes the color of every other sock that hasn't been put into a basket yet. It actually can either help you or hinder you. I have no idea how this managed to get past their bug testing team; perhaps it was a last-minute add in? To replicate: Click "Make New Custom Levels" on the main menu and enter any name you wish. Put another sock on the field. The color doesn't matter. Put a four color paint bucket (it should be the colored circle; to get the multi-colored one keep clicking the green arrow next to it until you find one with four different colors on it). Place it on the field where a sock will pass through it. Test the level by clicking the "Test" button. When the sock goes through the paint bucket, it should be the only one to change color, yet it changes the color of the other sock too.

Resolution: wontfix
Status: newclosed

I'm closing this bug report because

  • It is the behavior in the original game
  • I can't find any manual for the game to describe the intended behavior
  • Changing it would require testing that all existing levels are still completable

Maybe a feature request could be opened in the future for a game option to add this changed behavior.
