Reported by: SF/warepire Owned by: bluegr
Priority: low Component: Engine: Gob
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Goblins 3

Description

Non-cinematic level "introductions" always play, even if you visited the area before. These include the readme note for the Lab and Blount/Ware-Blount split in Brain. Save file for Mirrors/Brain area attached.

To recreate this problem, just go to Brain, leave and then go back. The splitting of Blount and Ware-Blount should not be played the second time.

DrMcCoy, could be a regression after the video refactoring?

comment:3 by DrMcCoy, 15 years ago

No, since at least the split in The Brain isn't a video, but normal game sprites. Are you sure this doesn't also happen in the original?

When I still had a computer that could run DOS I had version 1.03 on diskettes, in this version it did not happen, at least not the Lab notes where shown every time, Mirrors/Brain is a little more fuzzy but I am pretty sure that was a one time thing also. I sold the diskettes to replace them with a CD version (which is 1.02) as I no longer have a diskette reader. Could be a version difference of course... Hopefully someone that still owns a DOS machine can test this out properly.

But you can it in dosbox. Could you please try it?

Don't know that program, will read up on it and test around, I will report back in a few days.

Sorry for not getting back until now, work is riding me hard and I haven't had much energy or time left to complete the testing. I have partially tested this in DosBox and the lab-notes repeat every time you enter the LAB, I have not had time left to check the BRAIN cut scene.

From what is described in the previous comment, this seems to be a bug in the original, so perhaps this should be closed and moved to the wiki?

This is how the original worked. Here's an example video of the split Blount animation, shown every time the player enters the brain level:
