Version: Keywords: original
Cc: Game: Conquests of the Longbow

Description

When asked riddles by the green man the game loops. one may answer riddles right or wrong, but nothing happens. upon talking to the green man again, the sequence restarts.

Occasionally when answering a riddle incorrectly, completing the hand code will bring up ScummVM console as reported in bug 3036601 (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3036601&group_id=37116&atid=418820)

Duplicate bug #3040169 has some more info, copying it here:

Game is not completeable - it breaks on the 7th Day when you have to answer the Green Man's riddles. After asking a question, a hand appears to enter the answer. No matter if you enter correct or wrong word, when you click the center of the palm to finish typing, the hand dissappears, but Green Man doesn't react. It looks like the conversation is finished, you can interact with environment, but Robin is still a half tree, so he cannot walk, but you can open the map of Sherwood forest - now when you click the map spot with oak tree to return the game crashes with message "view resource 246 not found!". I attach the savegame file (longbow.001)

This is a bug of the original scripts. Sierra has released a relevant patch, which you can obtain here: http://www.sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updates/Patches-Updates-Games/ConquestsUpdates.html

Applying this patch means that your saved game in that scene will be invalidated, so you need to create a new saved game 2-3 screens away, apply the patch, and load the new saved game. I'm attaching a saved game I created, with the patch applied.

The scene worked fine for me after applying Sierra's patch. Please reply if that fixed the problem for you

The original patch from Sierra worked like a charm. The game is completable for me, although I have not tried every possible combination of choices that occur in the last parts of the game or the various ways of failing yet.

Thanks. I'll keep this one open, in case we can patch the problematic script ourselves, or throw a warning notifying the user that the game will have severe issues later on without Sierra's patch

A warning dialog is now thrown on game startup if buggy unpatched game scripts are detected (rev #52172)
