#4941 closed defect (fixed)

SCI, Castlebrain/Amiga: Invisible text in word search

Reported by: SF/quietust Owned by: bluegr
Priority: low Component: Engine: SCI
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Castle of Dr. Brain

Description

In the Amiga version of "Castle of Dr. Brain", the sports/games word search puzzle on the 3rd floor fails to display any letters, making it impossible to complete (unless you happen to know where all of the words are, since it's not random). Additionally, the puzzle immediately afterwards (in which you need to arrange some of the words in a grid to spell out another word vertically) has the same problem.

The attached savegame has 17 of the required 18 words found - to complete the puzzle, find the word "jacks" at the 3rd row, 3rd column, left to right.

Amiga versions still have pending issues, please only file reports for PC versions. Leaving it open with a low priority, but please don't file any more reports for Amiga versions at this time

It seems that text data is stored in a somewhat different manner in the Amiga version of Dr. Brain. The calls are done from kDisplay, and if I hack the textp pointer in there (textp.segment--; ), it somewhat works, but all of the text is shifted
