#4687 new defect

SAGA: ITE - Jail bug after speaking to Shiala

Reported by: SF/cyber-axe Owned by:
Priority: normal Component: Engine: SAGA
Version: Keywords: script
Cc: Game: Inherit the Earth

Description

ScummVM 1.0.0rc143718 (Aug 25 2009 12:34:25) English DOS PC CD-ROM Windows 7 Ultimate

When visiting the Dark Claw Campsite when they are out and walking over to the jail on the right it triggers the being rescued by Shiala sequence and then am never captured by the wolves later since that event has triffered.

I have tested this if you goto the camp before meeting Shiala then the event doesn't trigger when you walk to the jail segment, if you go back and speak to her and say just passing through and go back it will trigger when you walk to the jail if you go back to the camp. I also tested it by using the Looking for information response when talking to her and it triggers then aswell.

This bug is nice to get fixed before the release. Raising priority for keeping the track.

This is definitely a script bug, and I've got all original script sources from Joe recently. Ask me if you want to work on this.

Just want to say this bug is still there, and very disruptive as it essentially causes you to skip a vital part of the plot.

I can also confirm that this bug is in the original version of the game having reproduced the bug in the Steam version.

To describe the bug in more detail:

The proper way to play is:

  • Arrive on wolf island
  • Talk to Shiala at waterfall
  • Go to dam and get captured
  • Very long and elabourate cutscene at campsite where key plot details are revealed
  • Small cutscene where Shiala rescues you from jail
  • Game continues.

However, if you reproduce the bug it goes:

  • Arrive on wolf island
  • Talk to Shiala at waterfall
  • Walk to Campsite yourself at northern part of island
  • Walk to jail room on right of the camp
  • IMMEDIATELY trigger small cutscene where Shiala rescues you from jail
  • Game continues on, with you having missed some vital cutscenes

This bug is very easy to trigger since all you have to do is visit locations "out of order" (without knowing what the proper order is meant to be of course). Also, to repeat, its seems to be in the original game.

I've attached two save games, one on arrival to island, and right before the bug (in wolf campsite, after talking to Shiala).

Finally, I've got a nice Twitch clip video demonstrating the bug: https://clips.twitch.tv/CourageousFaintFiddleheadsGrammarKing-wRAeveA9WJ0W63a0

(If you're interested, there's another clip where I visit the same room before talking to Shiala. I enter and leave the room normally, with the only issue being some minor dialog bugs that are not serious: https://clips.twitch.tv/PlainHardCiderItsBoshyTime-BW0-gpCAE32IQewx )
