#4453 closed defect (fixed)

Unable to select subtitles in Atlantis and Simon 1

Reported by: SF/gimlao Owned by: Kirben
Priority: normal Component: Engine: AGOS
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Simon the Sorcerer 1

Description

( Sorry but I need those subtitles, I'm french. =P )

With Atlantis and Simon 1, when I click on Edit Audio and Override, "Text and Speech" is grayed ( Subtitle speed is also grayed for Simon 1 )...

But I will see the subtitles if I select "Speech and Subtitles" in the ScummVM Options.

Version : 1.0.0svn42661 (Jul 22 2009 22:39:04)

... I don't know if I have to show you that :

« User picked target 'atlantis-1' (gameid 'atlantis')... Looking for a plugin supporting this gameid... SCUMM Engine [all games] Starting 'Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis' WARNING: Engine_SCUMM_create: No unique game candidate found, using first one! Your game version appears to be unknown. If this is *NOT* a fan-modified version (in particular, not a fan-made translation), please, report the following data to the ScummVM team along with name of the game you tried to add and its version/language/etc.: SCUMM gameid 'atlantis', file 'atlantis.000', MD5 'de9be9be4e3fb4c05eaa55dfcd8 13233' »

Because it's an english version patched with french subtitles. ( I have the original french version, but it's not talkie. =/ )

For Simon 1, I think it's also an english version patched with the french subtitles... ( ... The french version isn't talkie ... )

Sorry, all the text is in french, not only the subtitles but also the verbs, etc...

versioninfo=1.0.0svn42676

"Text and Speech" is back for Atlantis, but not for Simon 1.

And I've seen that it will be back if I remove "sndNoSubs" in the Simon 1 "guioptions" in the scummvm.ini file :

guioptions=sndNoSubs launchNoLoad

Please do the following: Get the latest daily build (resp. update from SVN), then remove the relevant entries from your config (i.e. use the launcher to "Remove" those games), then re-add them. Does the issue persist?

Sorry, the issue persist...

Version : 1.0.0pre042957 (Jul 31 2009 22:29:16)

There's that "sndNoSubs" when I add Simon 1 :

[simon1-fr] platform=pc gameid=simon1 description=Simon the Sorcerer 1 (CD/DOS/French) language=fr path=H:\Programmes\ScummVM Games\SIMON1\ guioptions=sndNoSubs launchNoLoad

And I can change "Text and Speech" to "Speech and Subtitles" if I remove "sndNoSubs".

I've found the european version of Simon 1.

It contains 4 languages : French, Italian, Hebrew, and Spanish.

I installed it with DosBox in French, and the french subtitles are enabled during the game.

So there's no reason for ScummVM to disable subtitles by default while adding this game. ^^;

Eugene, this is in your code, I think.

Fixed.

Actually Kirben knows better which games have subtitles and which don't. From the sources I learned that only German and English CD versions of Simon 1 do not have subtitles, as well as Puzzle Pack.

I checked all game entries, but it would be nice if Travis would check them over again.

Yes, the correct targets were updated.

The real problem is the multi-lingual versions of Simon the Sorcerer 1 (DOS CD), should only offer the options of 'Speech only' and 'Speech and Subtitles'.

The AGOS game engine will force speech to be enabled in the multi-lingual versions of Simon the Sorcerer 1 (DOS CD), if someone attempts to use the 'Subtitles only' option.
