Cc: Game: Sam and Max

Description

when i try to run sam&max, it claims that it needs a config file (scummvm.ini, which does exist. doesnt have any content in the s&m entry.) and the device is in use (no sounds are playing). another window opens for the game - and is frozen (i have to kill it from windows).

exact message: Unable to open configuration file: C:\WINNT\scummvm.ini.

Detected game 'Sam & Max', version 6.4.2 WARNING: No path was provided. Assuming the data files are in the current directory! Error(0:0:0x0): MM System Error 'The specified device is already in use. Wait until it is free, and then try again.'!

Ignore the scummvm.ini line, that's just - as it says - a warning. It's looking for the ini file, and you don't have one. But it's not required. See readme.txt for more.

The 'MM System Error' is from Windows. Windows cannot open your soundcard. This may be for a number of reasons, such as you do not have a recent version of DirectX installed, your audio card drivers are broken, you have another application that 'locks' the audio card open (such as Winamp)... or you just don't HAVE a sound card.

it's not that.. < you do not have a recent version of DirectX installed > its not that effective in win2000 afaik

< your audio card drivers are broken > my audio card works fine

< you have another application that 'locks' the audio card open (such as Winamp) > winamp doesnt lock my audio card open.. besides i tried logging off and on (to close any program that could be open) and still got the error.

< ... or you just don't HAVE a sound card > i do .. who doesnt? i got scummvm for the sounds.

Yes, of course DirectX is effective in Win2K. You should try upgrading to DX8.1. Also make sure you are running the latest version of SDL - www.libsdl.org

Other than that, there isn't much I can suggest. The only way this could be a scummvm bug is if your soundcard has trouble creating a directsound initiated waveout session. If this is the case I will add a new commandline option to reenable DX Primary output in ScummVM..

Closing. Appears to have been a Windows bug.
