FOA: Text "Across-arms" appended in dialog selector

Reported by: SF/cesken Owned by:

Cc: Game: Indiana Jones 4

Description

Hello,

I am playing FOA (German/DOS) in TEAM mode. I am in the hotel, in the dialog with Sophia that follow a "failed" seance session. In this dialog a strange text ("Across-arms") is appended after 2 of the 4 possible selection. While this is a cosmetic issue in the first place, it *could* also point out to a memory management error. This is the main point why I report this isssue here. I am attaching a savegame, and a clipped screenshot, that shows the text. Attention: As it is from the german DOS version, the text is obviously german. Probably it does not apply to other language versions.

Chris

Please do not change the tracker item priorities, we'll just reset them to the values we think are apporpriate anyway... Thanks.

Actually, the text 'Across-arms' appears precisely like that in script room-28-204:

[13F5] (27) PutCodeInString(Var[443], "Junge, schwer, so sein Geld zu verdienen.Across-arms");

and

[147B] (27) PutCodeInString(Var[443], "Das klappt nicht. La^225 uns abreisen.Across-arms ");

I believe that this is a bug in the localization of FOA and likely occurs using the original engine, too. In particular, that part of the conversation actually is 'duplicated' in the script; it occurs almost identical in two places. Once it is correct, once not -- so it's possible that it slipped through playtesting. BTW, the two versions of the conversation are identical in the english FOA scripts, but in the german version, the wording differs slightly:

"Das klappt nicht. La uns gehen." vs. "Das klappt nicht. La uns abreisen.Across-arms " and "Junge, nicht einfach, so sein Geld zu verdienen." vs. "Junge, schwer, so sein Geld zu verdienen.Across-arms " and finally "Was machen wir jetzt?" vs. "Was machen wir jetzt."

(that they used a "." instead of the correct "?" confirms again my guess that this part of the game wasn't properly play tested by LEC).

So should it be closed then as not our bug?

Reading fingolfin's comment, it is fair to assume that it is a bug in the localization of FOA. Additionally, I am not able any more to run the original game (under WinXP) to check that. So, I agree: Yes, please close the bug.

Ok, closing.
