ALL/SFX: Setting the SFX volume at 256 mutes sound

Reported by: SF/kaminari Owned by: fingolfin
Priority: normal Component: Audio
Keywords: Cc:
Game:

Description

In ScummVM launcher, set the SFX volume slider of Simon 1 or 2 to the max (256) and listen to the intro -- the sound effects and speech are muted. If you set it to 255, no problem. The Music slider doesn't seem to be affected.

To be honest, it also happens in a couple other games (Broken Sword 1&2) but it works in others (The Dig Demo). Since it doesn't seem to affect every game, I decided to file my report in the Simon bug page. All I can remember is that it's a recent behaviour (less than two weeks ago, but my hamster ate my homework, my provider went AWOL and I couldn't report it earlier, etc).

Win2K+SP4. Win32 CVS build (1615K exe file, last update: January 21, 2005, 4:04 pm).

Fixed for Simon engine, moving to general bugs.

Should be fixed for BS1 now. Are you sure the problem occurs in BS2 ? I didn't try it there, but the code looks safe enough and shouldn't be affected by this "byte overflow" bug.

I just tried BS2 and indeed the problem doesn't occur. I should test a couple more games to make sure which one is affected as well. One thing though: the music/sound/speech options can bet set up from 0 to 256, while I remember them to be limited to 255 in the past months. Maybe that's just me, I'm very tired these days :o)

So it now works in all the games you reported. If you find any other place where it causes a problem, feel free to reopen this.

In 80a96fd9:

AMIGAOS4: Automate special target installation even more (#1901)

  • AMIGAOS4: Update amigaos.mk
  • reorg
  • add stripping/copying engine plugins
  • add Ext_Ins_so.rexx
  • Ext_Inst_so.rexx

Add script to extract and install all compiled-in shared libraries to a local sobjs/ dir.
Reason is that not every AmigaOS4 installation, especially vanilla ones, feature all mandatory libraries (which has led to many bug reports and lots of gathering of the correct libraries for users in the past)

  • AMIGAOS4: RM2AG.rexx
  • Add automatic installation to the correct path
  • Add deleting the temp file
  • Typos and rewording
  • Add I/O panic switches
