BS1: Crash with italian language and subtitles

Reported by: SF/shadoooo Owned by: lavosspawn
Priority: high Component: Engine: Sword1
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Broken Sword 1

Description

Hi! I just playes with BS1 set up to italian language and subtitles activated. I encountered several bugs playing the game. These crashes cause scumm to exit. Sometime also the subtitles aren't right respect to the spoken words, but are almost casual or ripetitive. I have also a savegame which cause the crash. Simply load it with the italian setup, activate the sebtitles with F5 menu and look at the light on the back wall (left mouse button) to have the crash.

To process your bug report appropriately, we need you to provide the following additional information:

* ScummVM version (PLEASE test the latest CVS/Daily build) * Bug details, including instructions on reproducing it * Language of game (English, German, ...) * Version of game (talkie, floppy, ...) * Platform and Compiler (Win32, Linux, MacOS, ...) * Attach a save game if possible * If this bug only occurred recently, please note the last version without the bug, and the first version including the bug. That way we can fix it quicker by looking at the changes made.

This should only take you a little time but will make it much easier for us to process your bug report in a way that satisfies both you and us.

Thank you for your support!

-Scumm version is 6.1.1 for win32 -game in CD version english talkie and subtitles in several languages

* There exists no version "6.1.1" of ScummVM. Maybe you have 0.6.1 or 0.6.1b ? You can find out by looking at the "About" dialog, for example.

* "Win32" doesn't really tell us much about your setup; for example, which operating system do you use exactly?

yes, sorry, it's 0.6.1.1 aka 0.6.1b, the operating system is win2000, P3 866MHz with 1GB of RAM. The system is forking very well for sure, it's a problem of scumm.

I wonder if this is the same as https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=922774&group_id=37116&atid=418820

If so, the latest development version should have a workaround that "at least should keep the engine from crashing". But I can't verify this myself.

I'm not sure what could be causing this behaviour, but I think it should work fine with current CVS.

It would be nice if you could test those crashing scenes again with the tomorrow's daily build and tell us if they work now.

Did you ever play BS1 with the original interpreter? I assume the subtitles were incorrect with it as well, weren't they?
