Cc: Valten7 Game: Quest for Glory 4

Description

ScummVM 2026.2.0
Mar 28 2026 20:10:59

Right after starting the game and leaving the cave, on the screen after speaking with Katrina where you slide down a ramp, when I try to exit to the left, I get the following error that prevents me from continuing the game:

ERROR: [qfg4-cd-win 535/10 hands::init @ 0ae6]: Send to invalid selector 0x36 (client) of object at 0061:03a1!

ERROR: [qfg4-cd 535/10 hands::init @ 0ae6]: Send to invalid selector 0x36 (client) of object at 005c:03a1!

I'm playing the CD version with the spanish translation of the game.
I've tried it in the DOS version and in the Windows version, with the same result.

Summary: Crash at the beginning of the game, after leaving the cave and going to the swamp.SCI: QFG4 CD Spanish fan translation crash at swamp

The real game works. Presumably this is a bug or incompatibility in the Spanish fan translation.

I have located this fan translation and tested it with this save, it works for me without crashing. I can walk left to the swamp.

The fan translation is just a collection of patch files with no script modifications. It cannot be responsible for this kind of crash.

From this error message, I believe you have corrupt game files. Copy the original game files from legitimate media (or purchase from GOG, etc) and apply the patch and it will work, otherwise please report back with more details such as a full directory listing and md5 hashes.

UPDATE: Now I see that NRS script patches are included, that makes me wonder if there's a floppy and CD version of the translation and you've applied the wrong one. That's the kind of mismatch that would break things and cause that error. One way or another, I am certain that your files are wrong.

Thanks for the quick reply. It seems you're right, and it appears to be a problem exclusive to the Spanish translation.

I'm currently playing the QFG Collection version on Steam, which is the one giving me the error.

I tried the game with another abandonware version I found with the translation already applied, and I couldn't replicate the same bug, so it seems to be a problem exclusive to the Steam version.

I see that this version has a folder called "patches," and when I launch the game in the ScummVM console, I see a warning message notifying me that the game has a script patch applied... Is it possible that the files in this folder are interfering with the fan-made Spanish translation?

The translation files I applied are from the CD version (Is this correct?). When I compare my version with the other one with the patch, it doesn't seem like I've made any mistakes with the files, so I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

In any case, since it doesn't seem to be a problem specific with ScummVM itself, I'll try to contact the translator and/or continue investigating to see if I can figure out which files are conflicting. If not, I'll try playing around with the version I downloaded.

Thanks.
