SCUMM: INDY 4 - Undetected FOA Japanese DOS Demo

Reported by: robertmegone Owned by: dwatteau
Priority: normal Component: Engine: SCUMM
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Indiana Jones 4

Description

I came across a Japanese DOS demo of FOA on the Dark Forces Japanese release that doesn't appear to be detected:

SCUMM gameid 'atlantis', file 'atlantis.000', MD5 '69034147f653692a46b61c369347e1d1'

It runs but seems to have some issues with text.

SCUMM: Add detection entry for DOS Japanese FOA demo

Reported in Trac#16585; part of Dark Forces Japanese release.

Resolution: fixed
Status: newclosed

Thanks for reporting this! I've added it to the detection tables, to be part of tomorrow's new daily build.

The text issues should be fixed with the detection entry setting it to Japanese, so that proper code is triggered for it.

(Interestingly, its MONSTER.SOU file appears to have a 3-byte difference with the other releases. I wonder if it's a small corruption that's part of the CD, part of this dump, or if they really fixed a small issue in this file. Would need a small content analysis to understand what it is changing...)

Is it possible to add it to the ScummVM demo page too so that I can remove it from my web hosting?

Replying to robertmegone:

I'll look into it, yes.

Do you have a bit more info about that Dark Forces CD? Barcode, ISRC, screenshots, whatever you have on hand. Possibly original file modification time on the demo directory, just some extra stuff if one needs to trace its exact origin a bit more.

Thanks!

I've only got a cd image here, the original disc is packed away from my last house move.

The modified date on the Indy folder on the disc is: Tuesday, 27 June 1995 at 19:41

Thanks, that'll do!

The demo has been added to <https://www.scummvm.org/demos/> (requires a development daily build, or the next 2026.2.0 release for proper detection).

Thanks for reporting it :)
