The affected games are:
Unavowed
Lamplight City
Whispers of a Machine

Slowdown occurs when a scripted and continuous effect is employed (such as rain, prerendered lighting, abundance of sprites)

Following your forum post, first of all I'd recommend disabling scalers as criezy suggested.

You can enable an FPS counter for AGS games (in "Game Options"), it'd be interesting to know how many FPS you get on average, i.e. in the main menu and intro of Unavowed which uses several graphical effects. You can also try toggling the VSync setting.
