SCI: QFG2: Inn Theme Music Becomes Very Quiet after EOF Entrance Exam

Reported by: ArthurWalden Owned by:
Priority: normal Component: Engine: SCI
Version: Keywords: qf2, music
Cc: ArthurWalden Game: Quest for Glory 2

Description

I am using ScummVM version 2.9.0.

In Quest for Glory 2, after passing the EOF entrance exam, when you wake up in the inn, the theme music for the room becomes very quiet thereafter (not the evening music played by the musician). Quitting and Restarting does not seem to help. This may affect other music themes in the game; I'm not quite sure.

I am playing the GOG version of the game.

I am playing the game on Windows 11 Home, version 24H2, x64.

Correction: All music in the inn is affected, including evening music and the poet's reading on Day 16.

Further correction: It appears to affect all later music in the game, as the caravan sequence was too quiet as well.

Okay. After considerable more play, I can provide a better update. The problem is still occurring. On this playthrough (I restarted as a magic-user), this volume bug kicked in on Day 1 without going to WIT. (On the last playthrough, it was Day 11.) I am still not clear on what triggers it. Rooms affected include the Katta's Tail Inn, the Magic Shop, the Astrologer, Aziza's Home, the Caravan sequence, and the Blue Parrot Inn in Raseir. Rooms not affected include the daytime Gate Plaza, Shema's Dance, Practice with Uhura at the Guildhall, all combat, and most sound effects. Obviously, I can partially compensate by constantly adjusting my speaker volume knob, but that is really inconvenient. Also, the KT Inn music is so quiet that I can barely hear it even with my volume turned up all the way.

(In addition, the sounds effects for most of my spells have kicked out. I am not sure whether this is a different bug so I will be submitting a separate ticket for this one.)

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
