This is an extremely minor issue, it does not quite change the play-ability of the game. Here's a quote from some walk-through :

The room is pitch black; all you can see are your eyes and your hammer. From
the entance: go up all the way, left all the way, up all the way, down a space,
right, down, right, up, left, up, right about four spaces, down, right, down,
right about 2 spaces, up, left, up, right, up, and left to find the shovel.
Find your way back, and leave the house.

Since it's intended as a puzzle, I had to go ahead and fix it, regretfully. Ironically, I never even realized it was meant to be entirely black during my previous playthroughs. Good catch.
