SCUMM: DIG: Radio filter and static effects missing from specific radio discussion

Reported by: antoniou79 Owned by: AndywinXp
Priority: normal Component: Engine: SCUMM
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: The Dig

Description

This is with a Windows local build of ScummVM from recent master HEAD on msys2/mingw64 with the GOG English version of The Dig.

Early in the game, after Low places the second explosive device on the Asteroid, if he talks to Robbins (Maggie) there's a specific conversation between them, when talking about Brink, that does not get the special "radio voice filter" and "radio static effect" that the rest of their conversation does.

I've only spotted one instance of this, and I'm attaching the saved game, in case this filter and radio audio effects is applied on-the-fly by the SCUMM engine.

To reproduce from the save game:

  • Click on Maggie (Robbins) to talk to her.
  • Click on the conversation panel that has a thumbnail of Brink.

The affected dialogue goes like this:

  • I hope Brink really checked the positions of these explosives
  • He's a professional, Commander. I'm sure he did fine.

I can confirm that this is an original issue: they probably forgot to edit those two voice lines.

These, by the way, do not use the automatic radio filter available from the iMUSE mixer, so this is really not something which can be fixed; instead this category of lines already comes with a "pre-printed" filter+saturation effect (plus a couple of sound effects to mimic the start and finish of a radio communication) which was applied by whoever was in charge of sound design/editing, before it was exported in the in-game format.

Thanks anyway!
