COMI: No sound, crash in Part III Mac 0.6.0-pre

Reported by: SF/stappan Owned by: aquadran
Priority: normal Component: Engine: SCUMM
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Monkey Island 3

Description

I have had this problem with Mac OSX daily build snapshots from February 19 and 23. I'm using OSX 10.2.8 with the COMI CD for Windows. I'm running the game files off hard drive.

In the 2/19 snapshot, prior to and at the beginning of Part III, when they're on the ship and being chased, the sound goes in and out and is replaced with subtitles, and eventually the debugger starts up, and I get this:

Error:(40:125:0x:794) [or various other similar numbers] Imuse DigiSndMgr::openSound() can't alloc free sound slot

When I exit, the game freezes.

Tried both regular and Mega-Monkey versions with the 2/23 daily build snapshot, same problem as before, only it happens earlier. There's no sound (but subtitles) for the scene right before they sail off in the ship with Elaine, then I get the title page for Part III: Three Sheets to the Wind, and sometimes it goes on a little further. Then the debugger comes up, with the same iMuse error message, and when I exit that, the game freezes.

I haven't been able to get past this point, and in fact have never been able to get past the Pirate Song with the previous version of SCUMMvm (which also had the sound- going-in-and-out bug, but didn't freeze, just got caught in a silent loop on the pirate song) in spite of the fact that the game is listed as completable.

I've attached a savegame. All that needs to be done is to go right and use the shovel, and the problems all happen after that.

I can confirm this on GNU/Linux (Debian unstable w/kernel 2.4.25). I get the exact same behavior that Stacey reports on the Mac.

It happened with cvs snapshots from 23 Feb 04 and 24 Feb 04. :(
