Which version of ScummVM are you testing with?

Can you test with a daily developer build of 2.9git?

The bug report seems identical with this ticket, which has been closed as fixed:

OK, I found a nightly here https://scummvm.serra.me/ Installed it to D:\ScummVMv2.9
scummvm-snapshot-2.9.0git-general-win32.exe 2024-02-05 01:06 128M ScummVM 2.9.0git-1841-gc49c10432cf, NANCY: Respect text end marker
And it's still the same old thing i.e. chug chug chug chug of the E: DVD drive The game was never meant to run audio syllable by syllable and video step by step. It needs to be installed and not pulled off and unpacked chunk by chunk. One other thing, when 'Add'(ed) to ScummVM it didn't pick up the Schizm artwork placekeeper. v2.8.0 did but not the nightly v2.9 if that Nancy is interested. Those other tickets that say Closed, personally I think those people just gave up and never got resolution. I'll keep monitoring this if anyone wants to work (experiment) on this problem with me and thanks.

What happened to all my other comments?

You should copy the game data to a local drive instead of playing it off of the DVD if you can. This is likely happening because ScummVM doesn't preload the music files (or anything from the installer package), so if you're playing from the DVD, it has to alternate between reading audio data and reading the video data, which is very slow on an optical drive. An option to preload the audio may be added in the future, but that's not guaranteed to fix this problem. You can also try turning off the music and see if that helps.

The other ticket was closed because, as far as we know, the issue with it not detecting this version was fixed.

@rwprime Did you try copying the datafiles to a local drive as elasota suggested?

Resolution: fixed
Status: newclosed

I've added a "Preload Sounds" option that will reduce I/O stalls on storage with high seek times.

However, the game is not completable playing from the DVD, as it requires changing disc sides and ScummVM does not currently support disc swaps, so you should still copy it to disk first.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
