SCUMM: Sync issues in FT intro

Reported by: GermanTribun Owned by: AndywinXp
Priority: normal Component: Engine: SCUMM
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Full Throttle

Description

System: Windows 10 x64
ScummVM: Newest 2.7.0git
Version: German CD

While the low latency mode works like a charm during gameplay itself, during the intro (at lest in the German version), it causes sync issues. I actually compared the intro in DosBox, in ScummVM without low latency and with it. With low latency the snyc is actually worse than without it.

I don't know if its due to something with the German version (as was surpisingly discovered with the first bike fight) or a general problem between SMUSH and low latency.

Thanks; this is known, and it's because the FT cutscenes audio run on a separate sound engine which reports back to iMUSE. For the low latency mode to work properly, I have to restrict the whole audio of those cutscenes to one stream, which is going to yield a slightly longer latency.

This is not going to be fixable unless I butcher the code of the other audio engine, something which would defeat the purpose of having a non intrusive low latency mode.

I strongly advise to ALWAYS use the standard mode, and to use low latency mode only if you are effectively running into other latency issues (e.g. not on a Windows PC :-) ).

Closing!

Oh, I hadn't known that.
Perhaps you could add a note into ScummVM that says as much as "only activate in case of serious latency troubles"?

As a matter of fact I think I wrote that on the NEWS file, and I wrote "Allows the game to use low latency audio, at the cost of sound accuracy." in the tooltip appearing when hovering the mouse on the option.

Not sure how much text I can still squeeze in there, but I can try
