Sometimes the opening of a savegame does work but only when it had been saved seconds ago and I only walked a littlebit with Indy. I use the CVS version but over a few day's no difference in behaviour. I have the debian sdl package version 1.2.3 installed. Running a 2.4.18 kernel.
