The SLUDGE Engine was created in 2003 by Tim Furnish, and was used to make a various games including the awesome Out of Order.
Since then, it's source code has been released.
Some work has already been put into supporting the the engine in ScummVM, including a GSoC project from 2017, but I don't know the current status of that.
It would be great to have the engine supported again, and be able to play games like Out of Order on modern platforms.

Thank you, the work is in progress.

It seems a significant amount of work on this has already been done: https://yinsimei.wordpress.com/2017/08/28/gsoc-2017-summary/
