BASS (CD): Incorrect line skipping

Description
Something weird is going on with the text skipping in BASS. Almost every time I press period or click the mouse-button to skip the current line of text, the next line of text skips too. This can be extremely annoying at some times.
ScummVM version: 0.5.3cvs (Aug 3 2003 19:04:22) Bug details, including instructions on reproducing: This apperas throughout the whole game, as far as I've played. Language of game: English Version of game: CD (from the ScummVM page) Platform and Compiler: MacOS X 10.2.6 w/ gcc 3.1
