ScummVM: Win7-32 Kirben 2.1.0 git-1748-gf17626c1b
If you pick up either Sirrus or Achenar's books then the sound stops only at that point. The original keeps playing the background sound effects. If you put the book back down or open up then the sound works fine then.

I've checked a few videos on youtube and it seems to me the background music stops when the book closeup is shown in the original as well.
