SCUMM: INDY4: Explored rooms in maze have question marks appear briefly

Reported by: dafioram Owned by: AndywinXp
Priority: normal Component: Engine: SCUMM
Version: Keywords:
Cc: Game: Indiana Jones 4

Description

ScummVM: 1.10.0git-4732-gd613989
Game: Indiana Jones and the fate of Atlantis Talkie (GOG)
Tester OS: Win7-64

Near the end of the game in the maze portion the top down view gives questions marks, "?", for rooms that have not been explored. After a room has been explored the question mark is replace with the rooms name.

In the current ScummVM version when indy is leaving one of the rooms and returning to the top down view there is a brief time period (1 seconds) during which if the mouse pointer is put over a previously explored room it will have a question mark over it. After this period the question mark is replaced with the room's name if it has been explored. It doesn't matter if the pointer is put over the room you just explored or another.
This should work for any save at the maze and for any room.

Here is a demo to show the issue: https://streamable.com/c00s6

I don't have a dosbox save at this part of the game so I can't confirm if it is in the original. Its just a graphical issue so it doesn't affect anything. I did the teampath if that matters.

I am an idiot, this DOES happen in the original. Thanks to dwa who doublechecked his original french floppy interpreter! I guess we can close this as this really doesn't affect the experience at all and instead indicates that we're doing things correctly for this situation.

Playing with the original French floppy release in DREAMM (interpreter is 5.2.22X (Jul 19 1993 15:41:06), I can reproduce this issue in an original interpreter, yeah :)

I also think I saw this when playing with that interpreter back in 2003.

Good news is that our SCUMM v5 is probably perfect, now! Bad news is that we might want to fix this original behavior with an enhancement… but it's a very minor issue. Putting it in the lower part of my enhancement TODO.
